I’d been taking part in a society golf day at Upchurch River Valley when I started to experience strange involuntary muscle spasms in my chest and arms. I remember going out to the patio and it was there that I collapsed. I didn’t realise at the time but I was suffering a sudden cardiac arrest.

Before coming to a halt, I hit two other cars, and it is a miracle that no major damage was caused to either of the vehicles or, more importantly, their passengers.

It was a normal Friday and my husband Jim had gone out cycling. I was nine months pregnant at the time and at home looking after our toddler.

Standing on the grass verge by the hard shoulder of the motorway, I watched as recovery workers tended to my broken down vehicle. I was tired and cold but at least I thought I was out of harm's way. Suddenly, out of nowhere, I heard a deafening crash. As I turned to see what had happened, I faced the horrifying sight of a car hurtling towards me at high speed.

My car had hit a tree and I was trapped underneath the dashboard, needing intervention from the fire service to set me free. I had sustained very serious injuries to my legs and pelvis, I had injuries to my hands and I was losing a lot of blood.

Bounding about with endless energy, Louis started playing hide-and-seek and ran into one of the bedrooms as his Nan turned her back for just a moment. Suddenly she heard a big bang and ran in to the room to find Louis lying on the carpet with a heavy wardrobe on top of him.
