It was a bright, sunny day in June 2021 and I had a few paddocks to mow. I had a small field to do on a really steep slope. I drove about two or three miles and got up to the field and stopped on the road. I suddenly realised the tractor had started to roll on its own accord down the field. It was picking up speed. The next thing I knew I was on the ground and I'd gone underneath something.

I never knew much about Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey (KSS), prior to my accident. However, all that changed one sunny morning in August 2019. I’d been a motorcyclist for forty-one years with an unblemished riding experience. That day I was riding my Honda VFR 1200 Crosstourer along a quiet country ‘B’ road in rural Kent, when a car emerged out of a side road, into my path.

My name is Colin Harley and in April last year (2021) I was unfortunate enough to have a cardiac arrest just after walking the dog. I’d got back and put the dog in the garage. Next thing I know, it is 22 hours later and I am being woken up in King’s College Hospital in London.

I never dreamed that I'd need the services of KSS, but one day in April 2020, all that changed. It was a nice day and I decided to go for a bike ride around our village of West Kingsdown. I’d just turned onto the main road and… well, that was the last thing I can remember.

I’d been taking part in a society golf day at Upchurch River Valley when I started to experience strange involuntary muscle spasms in my chest and arms. I remember going out to the patio and it was there that I collapsed. I didn’t realise at the time but I was suffering a sudden cardiac arrest.

My name is Warren and in April 2019, my parents, my partner Richard and I were all in a car that had a head-on collision with a double-decker bus on the Isle of Wight. Tragically, we lost my much-loved mum, Yvonne, but without the life-saving skills of Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) and other Air Ambulances, my dad, Richard and I wouldn’t be here today.

Every Christmas is an even more special time than usual for me, my partner Mark and our son Jack as we know just how lucky we are to share them thanks to people just like you who go out of your way to support Air Ambulance Charity Kent Sussex Surrey (KSS). Each year as we celebrate, we raise a glass and say thank you to the medics and crew from the air ambulance and the incredible doctors at King’s College Hospital who saved my life after I suffered a cardiac arrest.

I was on my motorbike near Tonbridge passing a junction, with right of way to go straight ahead, when a car drove across the flow of traffic straight into me, with the biggest shunt you could ever imagine.

On Mother’s Day, in March 2013, I was critically injured in a cycling accident in Westerham near Sevenoaks in Kent. I was 48-years-old at the time and was out for a 30-mile Sunday ride which I did fairly regularly to keep fit. I was heading down Westerham Hill, which is the fastest part of the route and came off my bike. It was a hill I must have previously cycled down safely 200 times, at least.
