Dr Malcolm Russell MBE, Medical Director
Malcolm has been actively practising pre-hospital emergency medicine for twenty-five years, shaping both military and civilian practice. He has been part of the AAKSS team since 2007. Passionate about education, he lectures and teaches internationally and is still a very hands-on operational clinician and mentor within KSS.
Malcolm is a Medical Incident Officer for West Midlands Ambulance service NHS Trust, and is also a senior consultant with Midlands Air Ambulance Charity. He is Medical Director of the UK’s International Search and Rescue team and deployed to the Nepal earthquake in 2015. Malcolm is the UK’s representative to the United Nations International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) Medical Working Group.
In 2014, Malcolm was awarded an MBE for his services to Emergency Medicine and, in 2015, his company, Prometheus Medical Ltd, was awarded a Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Innovation, for a medical product he invented. In 2019 Prometheus unusually won a second Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Innovation.
