“In 2016, I was involved in a near-fatal motorcycle accident. I was treated at the roadside and air-lifted to a London hospital by Air Ambulance Kent Surrey Sussex. Put simply, without their involvement I could have lost my life.
After months in hospital and time off work, I decided that I wanted to meet and say ‘thank you’ to the Air Ambulance staff. After making contact, I was invited to the base with my family.
I really felt I wanted to give something back - to make a difference – and during my visit, I was made aware of the volunteering opportunities the AAKSS had to offer. I was excited to sign up and submit my application, and as soon as I was physically able, I was proudly out and about representing the charity.
I raise awareness by giving talks to organisations both large and small about the work of the charity, sharing my personal story. I have attended local school and summer fetes, large corporate events and county cycle rides to name but a few.
Prior to my accident, my time management was poor but I am now perfectly balancing my professional career, time with my young family and passionately volunteering for this worthy cause.
It is such a special feeling knowing that my ‘thank you’ to this charity is doing something to help others in need.”
