Young Ambassador chosen as a baton bearer for the Queen’s Baton Relay for the Commonwealth Games

One of our first Young Ambassadors has been selected for a major honour in recognition of her fantastic support for our charity.

Chanel Pritchard, age 16, will carry the Queen’s Baton on 7th July as part of the Queen’s Baton Relay in the build up to the Commonwealth Games.

The baton began its 294-day journey from Buckingham Palace last October and is currently being carried by bearers around all 72 countries in the Commonwealth, before finishing up in Birmingham when the Games begin on 28th July.

In England, 2,000 people, all with incredible inspirational stories, have been selected to carry the baton, with Chanel being selected as a baton bearer for the South East region.

Chanel Pritchard said, “I feel so honoured and so grateful for this wonderful once in a life-time opportunity. This will be a memory I will never forget.”

Chanel was nominated for this honour by her mother, Kiran Pritchard, who explains, “I applied online and told them about how Chanel suffered her Grandad’s loss but opted to channel her grief by becoming the young Mayor of Seaford, where she could raise money for her chosen charity, KSS – the charity which helped to care for her Grandad at the scene of his accident. She was then noticed and recognised by KSS who appointed Chanel as one their first ever Young Ambassadors.”

“I am incredibly proud of Chanel. She never ceases to amaze me. Her courage and spirit is one of a kind.”

Sarita Taneja, Patient and Family Aftercare Manager, KSS adds, “Chanel was selected from over 8,000 entries which is an amazing achievement. She is a remarkable young lady who thoroughly deserves the recognition through this honour. At KSS, we are so proud of Chanel, too, and are very grateful to her for her ongoing support helping us to fundraise and to raise awareness of our charity. We will be cheering her on every step of the way as she enjoys this special moment, carrying the Queen’s baton.”
