Adam Ormrod - HEMS Paramedic

I joined South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) in 2000, qualifying as a Paramedic in 2003. For the past four years I have enjoyed working as a Paramedic Practitioner in the Maidstone area but I am now enjoying the new challenge of working as a HEMS Paramedic. I work very closely with the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) Doctor to provide a high level of critical care to the sickest and most seriously injured patients across our region.
We are trained beyond the cope of practice of a land based paramedic in procedures such as anaesthesia, surgery and pain relief.
By delivering care normally only available in a hospital, we are able to not only save lives, but significantly improve the quality of survival for our patients.
My role gives me a huge sense of satisfaction – especially being able to meet with patients following their recovery. I feel very lucky to be part of the team.
