A Tonbridge fruit supplier held a bake off to help raise £1,300 for the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance, as the charity awaits the arrival of a new helicopter.

Berry Gardens Ltd picked the life-saving charity as their 2016 Charity of the Year.

They also sold copies of their annual calendar to support the service and held a golf day which raised more than £600.

Winner of the golf day, Peter Kenyon, of Cripps Solicitors, kindly chipped in with a donation to take the total raised on the day to £1,000.

Berry Gardens Sales & Procurement Director, Jacqui Green, said: “As a Kent-based company with the majority of our staff living in the area, we wanted to support a local charity that can make a significant difference to peoples’ lives.

“As a company we vote on which charity to support each year and the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance was a natural choice for us.

“Whilst we all hope we will not need their services, it is reassuring to know that it’s available 365 days of the year through ongoing fundraising. We are really proud to donate to such a great cause.”

The Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance has taken delivery of a new aircraft, an AW169, which is expected to be operational soon.

Flying faster, further and for longer, it will enable the pilot, doctor and paramedic crews to reach, treat and deliver patients to hospital even faster.

The AW169 has a significantly larger cabin, improving in-flight access to patients, which will allow for the delivery of more life-saving interventions.

Head of Corporate Relations for the charity, Julie Clare, said: “The support from Berry Gardens is fantastic. Support and generosity from local businesses makes a real difference to us – it means we can continue our life-saving work, reaching the most critically ill and injured patients who need us.”

Specialising in berries and cherries, Berry Gardens has two sites in Kent; its head office at Five Oak Green and pack house at Linton, supported by several farms.
