Shoppers raise £1,400 for air ambulance

Shoppers in Heathfield raised more than £1,400  for the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance in a raffle to win a BMW 1 Series worth £23,000.

Staff and volunteers from the charity sold tickets for the Win a BMW Draw at the Station Road store last week (May 17th & 18th).

A grand total of £1,418.94 was raised in ticket sales and donations for the service, which relies almost entirely on public support to continue its vital work.

James Cook, Head of Lotteries & Gaming, said: “We are so grateful to Waitrose in Heathfield for giving us a new platform to raise awareness of the charity, and to the public for their fantastic support.”

Tickets for the car raffle cost £5 each and can be purchased online at with the draw taking place on November 2nd.

The winner can pick the colour of their car and there will also be a second and third prize of £1,000 and a helicopter pleasure flight from Redhill Aerodrome, where one of the charity’s aircraft is based.

The five door BMW sports hatch boasts tyre pressure monitoring, a Thatcham 1 alarm system, ISOFIX child seat system, on-board computer, DAB digital radio, Bluetooth handsfree function, USB audio and a rain sensor.

Supporters can also buy a ticket for the Win a BMW Draw at this weekend’s Heathfield Show. The charity’s stall will be situated opposite the fairground.
