Surgeon Commodore Stuart Millar

Stuart Millar is Head of Medical Operational Capability for the UK’s Defence Medical Services, a post he took up in July 2017. In this role, he is responsible for providing high-level medical support to operations, both now and in the future, and along the whole patient pathway, from point of wounding to transfer back to the UK via deployed hospital care. He oversees capability development in terms of manpower, training, equipment, and policy, linking them together to make sure patients get the most effective and safest care possible.

He joined the Royal Navy in 1988 (the third generation of his family to be a Naval Medical Officer) and trained as a General Practitioner. He has deployed on various operations, both at sea and on land, and in support of all three Services
